I long for food I long for wine I long for simple things just as time I long for so much I long for coffee I long for books I long for movies but just the good I long for so much I long for postcards I long for songs I long for mountains and to feel the sun I long for so much but almost nothing costs a lot I long for so all the simple stuff I long for concerts I long for sweat I long for your love I long for sex I long for so much but almost nothing costs a lot I long for all the simple stuff I long for so much that doesn't have a plug I long for all the simple stuff

A Nashville summer's eve swing doors are spitting out a blend of cold air, beer, and perfect harmonies They said broadway was the place to be for the up and coming, the down and drinkers they all are stumblin' 'round and they don't see That this patch of concrete was a home to him that these dirt-stained shoes are too hard to walk in Life ain't fair no life ain't easy here if you're born into the wrong part of town if you lost connection to the ground There's just a few bucks in his plastic cup they say in god we trust but down here all hope's lost I don't wanna blame Nashville your city or your streets maybe we're just all to blame for putting our, over other people's needs

I am the alligator king I am the lord of the swamps I'm down with the heat I'm one with the sun I was raised next to the place where I once buried my mom I'm down with the rain I dance with the storms When Louisiana skies prepare for darkness and the beauty of the wild makes room for primal fear I am hoping and I'm wishing that there is something more to come I cross my fingers, I knock on wood one day I'll leave for something good but with the morning comes another day in the swamps In a cajun shack two feet above the mud she said „I see the swamp's your future, you present and past.“ I was staring at the chicken heads and scared by the blood that night I took a crown for that I never asked When Louisiana skies prepare for darkness and the beauty of the wild makes room for primal fear I am hoping and I'm wishing that there is something more to come I cross my fingers, I knock on wood one day I'll leave for something good but then the morning comes, another day out in the swamps

Heading down the same road for almost 15 years. I can't get my way wrong cause I got the autopilot on. Stopped asking questions cause that's just what you do when things don't go wrong, you just keep the autopilot on. I Always put the pedal to the floor Instead of shifting gears I'll stomp my heavy foot right on the brake and spin the steering wheel. Got stuck in traffic, feels like a goddamn year, my patience long gone it think the autopilot's wrong. I take the hard shoulder, the next exit is mine. With a blink of my eye the autopilot days gone bye. I Always put the pedal to the floor Instead of shifting gears I'll stomp my heavy foot right on the brake and spin the steering wheel. Everyone gets lost from time to time, but that's all right. If you go past the exit, just don't mind spin the steering wheel, be sure to be on the right side put the pedal to the floor and drive

Something old, something new something borrowed and blue and a silver sixpence lying in your shoe You're just your fathers son the same frame, you're both born under suburb suns. Just like his father once, every day he turns the shop sign behind dusty glass. Something old, something new something borrowed and blue and a silver sixpence lying in your shoe you got your mother's hair the precious heart, the smile with flickers of despair. Just like her mom she wears the apron with those daisies and she takes good care. Something old, something new something borrowed and blue and a silver sixpence lying in your shoe You have your own eyes a different, troubled angsty and a 'lil messed up mind know blends of black and white you're living in different worlds, living in different times And you know it's gonna break they're hearts, and you're sure it's not okay, there's times to speak, times to be quiet there's times to run away. Something stolen, not new, something darker than blue, and a silver sixpence slipping through the holes in our shoes

Some of us are left with broken hearts some of us have whiskey shivers some of us are stuck in their past some of us had their skin grew thicker some of us went through more than a lot some of us might have grown bitter Tonight I drink alone, I raise my glass Here's to what happens to the best of us Here's to what happens to the best, to the best of us It makes us who we are, here's to everything we lost, 's to the best of us Some of us learned that only a few things last some of us lost someone that they loved some of us considered giving up some of us returned to fights long lost some of us spend too much time with what some of us said would really matter Here's to what happens to the best of us Here's to what happens to the best, to the best of us It makes us who we are, here's to everything we lost, here's to the best of us They say we all have weight to carry No need to lift it on your own Let's reach out with helping hands Let's just make gravel out of stones

Monochrome 03:36
It's all grey outside I know before I open my eyes No matter what the weather's like, sunlights a lack of warmth and shines sheer white It all feels pale inside like a photograph faded by time I hope she won't recognize worries won't put color between lines Did someone change the film, 'cause all I see is monochrome I'm colorblind I'm kinda homeless in this house tonight I'm colorblind And all I see is monochrome Demons left of the night grubbing colors leaving only black and white they're walking by my side like dark clouds I just can't get off your mind

It started with hugs and high-fives and led to arguments about what was right we put our boxing gloves on and had our little fake fights with some blood on our lips and a little bit of crying we've come a long way from where we started I gave you my best shot, but you just pushed your luck that's how we ended in a how we got stuck in this Bareknuckle fight in a bareknuckle fight I don't wanna be that kid that pulls out a knife in a bareknuckle fight I got tired of fighting 'bout is who is right I'll just wave a white flag and touch the ground for three times the only way out is to leave or to die so you better step aside we've come a long way from where we started I gave you my best shot, but you just pushed your luck that's how we ended in a how we got stuck in this Bareknuckle fight in a bareknuckle fight I don't wanna be that kid that pulls out a knife in a bareknuckle fight I un-clench my fist show you my back I leave you with a nod of my heavy head I un-clench my fist I step aside I leave all you all alone

If everything that matters' your new mattress I'm just fine if you go straight to bed I remember we once talked about, dreams and fears, we made the wildest plans instead say, say, say it, man I won't laugh and I promise I'll try not to judge you for what you are tell me what makes you shit your pants what suits you well I'll sit and listen, you'll just tell If your only thrill is caused by your next paycheck just go ahead and buy yourself new friends I'm fine to scratch the topic but don't wanna spend my days talking about cash say say say it, man I won't laugh and I promise I'll try not to judge you for what you are tell me what makes you shit your pants what suits you well I'll sit and listen, you'll just tell And I know that's not your fault at all Maybe it's society's or mine And I know that almost everybody rolls that way Maybe I'm just none of that kind

about

John Steam Jr. Nuremberg, Germany

Underneath John Steam Jr’s intelligent, introspective songwriting lies a deep-rooted fascination for a bygone dusty, Nashville sound.
Equally well-received from stickered-up DIY-clubs, and stages among tractors and chicken
coops, to larger club and festival stages. Songs that are served straight up with trademark charm, a
sparkling wit and a disarming honesty.
